Planner inserts are a simple, flexible way to give your Laurel Denise planner a little extra space exactly where you need it. We offer both paper inserts (perfect for lists, notes, tracking, and planning) and plastic inserts (wonderfully reusable and great for quick notes, dashboards, or changing routines). Whether you're organizing a project, planning meals or events, or just needing a catch-all spot for your busy brain, inserts help your planner work even harder for you.
They snap in easily, move around with no fuss, and let you customize your layout without changing your whole system. In this FAQ, you’ll find everything you need to know about choosing inserts, using them, mixing planner sizes, and caring for both paper and plastic styles — all designed to make your planner feel beautifully tailored to you.
What are planner inserts?
Planner inserts are little add-on pages that give your planner extra space to breathe, dream, and stay beautifully organized. We offer paper inserts for lists, notes, routines, and planning, and plastic inserts for reusable dashboards, reminders, and weekly moments that shift with your life. Both styles snap in and out easily, allowing your planner to grow and change with you.
Why should I use inserts in my planner?
Inserts add a small but mighty boost to your planning system. They are perfect when you need:
A bit more room during busy weeks
A dedicated space for projects or routines
A reusable surface for frequently changing lists or habits
Notes that deserve a place of their own
They offer a gentle way to customize your planner without adjusting your entire layout.
How do I choose the right inserts?
Choose paper inserts when you want to write something once and keep it. They are ideal for projects, lists, tracking, journaling, or anything you want to reference later.
Choose plastic inserts when you want something reusable, such as a dashboard, a habit reminder, or a weekly rhythm that changes regularly.
Mix them, layer them, move them around. Your planner will adapt beautifully to you.
How do I add inserts to my planner?
Every Laurel Denise insert, paper or plastic, arrives pre-punched with our easy-snap slits. No tools needed and no fuss.
Line up the holes with the coil.
Run your finger down the edge and let it click into place.

How many inserts can I add at once?
Your planner works best with 12 sheets or fewer added at any time. A small monthly or quarterly clean-out helps everything stay comfortable to flip and keeps the coil from feeling too full.
Plastic inserts are a little thicker, so consider that when estimating your total.
Think of this as leaving space for your planner to move, breathe, and stay easy to use.
Can I move inserts around?
Yes. Inserts are meant to move with you. Add them, remove them, or rearrange them whenever you want. There truly is no wrong way to customize your planner.
How can I organize my inserts?
Tabs, page markers, and sticky notes are wonderful tools for creating sections, highlighting important pages, or making quick-access spots. Small touches like these help your planner feel thoughtful and intentional.
Can I write on plastic inserts?
Yes. Plastic inserts are made to be reused again and again.
Write with a fine-tip permanent marker
When you are ready to erase, layer a dry-erase marker on top and wipe clean with a dry tissue or paper towel
It feels a little magical and is perfect for routines or lists that evolve throughout the year.
Can I use small inserts in a large planner?
Yes, as long as the coil style matches.
Coil Planners
The Nancy, The Rose, The Valerie, and The Anne all use the same coil and hole spacing. This means:
Small inserts fit inside the large versions
They will appear a bit shorter in height, which many customers enjoy for quick lists or reminders
Spiral Planners (The Scout)
The Scout uses a spiral coil, which is different from our coil planners.
Only Scout inserts, paper or plastic, fit inside a Scout planner
Small Scout inserts can be used in the large Scout, though they will be smaller in both height and width

Additional Helpful FAQs
Will inserts make my planner bulky?
Not if you stay within the recommended amount. Up to 12 sheets keeps everything turning smoothly and keeps the coil comfortable.
Do inserts work with past or future planner editions?
For planners dated 2024 and newer, yes. Our coils are generally consistent year to year. If you have an older planner or are planning for future years, feel free to reach out so we can confirm compatibility for you.
Are inserts reusable?
Plastic inserts are reusable and perfect for routines or lists that change often.
Paper inserts are intended for single-use writing and long-term notes.
Each one serves a different purpose and both are lovely to use.
How should I store inserts when I’m not using them?
We love using the box your planner arrives in or one of our pouches to keep your inserts flat, organized, and ready for their next moment in your system.
Will inserts fall out if I move them often?
Nope! Our snap-in slits are sturdy and hold well during daily use. Press along the spine as you snap them in for the most secure fit.
Can I use inserts only during busy weeks?
Yes. Many customers add inserts only during hectic seasons. Use them when you need space and remove them when the week or project has passed. Your planner stays clean, beautiful, and perfectly functional.
Are inserts double-sided?
Most inserts are double-sided. Check the product listing for details about each style.
What pens work best on paper vs. plastic inserts?
For paper inserts:
Fine-tip pens, erasable pens, pencils, gel pens, and quick-dry inks work beautifully. Permanent markers or heavy highlighters may bleed depending on writing pressure.
For plastic inserts:
Write with a fine-tip permanent marker and erase using dry-erase layered on top.
Can inserts damage the coil?
No. Inserts are lightweight and gentle when used within the recommended limit.
Are inserts included with the planner?
Inserts are sold separately so you can choose exactly what you want and avoid extras you may not use.
Can I return or exchange inserts?
While we do not currently offer exchanges, we gladly accept returns for unused inserts in original packaging within 30 days of delivery. You can read more in our return policy.
